How it works

A parlay (an accumulator in the UK) combines several selections into one bet. The decimal odds of every leg are multiplied together, and that combined price is multiplied by your stake. Every leg has to win: one loser and the whole bet is lost.

Worked example

Three legs at 1.80, 2.00 and 1.70 combine to 6.12. A 10 stake returns 61.20, a profit of 51.20. The implied chance of all three winning is about 16%.

What the payout hides

Each price contains the bookmaker's margin, and in a parlay those margins multiply. At roughly 5% per leg, a three-leg parlay carries about 14% (1 − 0.95³). The bigger the number of legs, the larger the house advantage, which is why sportsbooks promote them so heavily.
