Hedge Bet Calculator
Work out how much to stake on the opposite outcome to lock in a profit or cut a loss.
Odds are entered in decimal format. Use the odds converter for American or fractional prices. Results are estimates for planning, not advice.
How it works
To guarantee the same result whichever side wins, stake (original stake × original odds) ÷ hedge odds on the opposite outcome. Your profit is then the original return minus both stakes.
Worked example
You have 50 at 4.00, returning 200. The other side is now 1.60. Staking 125 there returns 200 too, so you are 25 up either way. To merely get your 50 back if the first bet loses, 83.33 is enough.
When hedging makes sense
A hedge trades expected value for certainty: you pay the bookmaker's margin a second time. It is most useful on the last leg of a parlay or on a futures bet that has shortened a lot. A sportsbook's cash-out offer is the same idea with the margin already taken, so compare the two numbers.
