How it works

A unit is a fixed share of your bankroll, typically 1–3%. With fixed staking you bet the same unit until you review the bankroll. With percentage staking you recalculate the unit after every bet, so stakes shrink during a bad run and grow during a good one.

Worked example

A 500 bankroll at 2% gives a 10 unit. Ten straight losers leave 400 with fixed stakes and 408.54 with percentage stakes. Ten losers in a row is not unusual: at even-money odds it happens roughly once in a thousand sequences, and much more often at longer prices.

Keep it separate

A bankroll only works if it is money set aside for betting and nothing else. If losing it would affect rent or bills, it is too large. Deposit limits at your sportsbook are the practical way to enforce the number you chose here.
