Licence and background
theScore began as a Canadian sports scores and news app with a large North American audience. PENN Entertainment bought it in 2021 and turned it into its betting brand, first in Ontario, where it is registered with iGaming Ontario, and then in US states, where it replaced ESPN Bet in late 2025.
Each market has its own licence, and the app checks your location before you can bet.
