Sleeper

Sleeper is a US fantasy sports app that also runs paid pick'em contests on player stats. How it is regulated and where it is available.

US fantasy app, not a licensed sportsbook

This brand is not licensed in the markets we cover (or only in part of them), so it has no Wayfinder Score. If you play there, you do not get the protections a local licence brings: limits, self-exclusion and a regulator to complain to.

What it is

Sleeper became popular as an app for running fantasy football leagues with friends, a part of the product that is free. It later added Sleeper Picks, a paid game in which you predict whether players will go over or under a set number on stats such as yards or points.

The league manager is used well beyond the US. The paid contests are for US residents only.

How it is regulated

Paid contests are offered under state fantasy sports laws, not under sportsbook licences. Several state regulators have argued that pick'em games against the house are sports betting by another name, and the format has been restricted or reshaped in a number of states. Sleeper holds no gambling licence in the markets we cover (US, UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Portugal, South Africa and Ontario).

Availability changes, so check the app's current state list.

What to know

A pick'em entry behaves much like a parlay: every pick must hit, and the payout drops sharply if one misses. The protections that licensed sportsbooks must provide, such as statewide self-exclusion, do not always apply to fantasy operators.

We do not score fantasy apps.
