Licence and background

Betdaq was founded in Dublin in 2000 by the businessman Dermot Desmond and has been the second betting exchange behind Betfair ever since. Ladbrokes bought it in 2013, and it now belongs to Entain. It is licensed in Great Britain and Ireland.

UK protections apply on the British site, including GAMSTOP.

What you get

You back or lay an outcome at a price offered by another customer, and the exchange takes a commission on net winnings. Horse racing and British and Irish football carry most of the volume. A sportsbook and casino sit alongside the exchange.

On smaller events there may be little money available to match your bet.

Our take

A useful second exchange, with commission deals that can beat the market leader's. Liquidity is thinner, so check the depth of a market before relying on it.
